On and off from 2001 to 2003 I travelled to a few places in Australia and New Zealand, but it wasn't until I started to organise a 1-month trip to Europe in 2006 that I started to catch the travelbug. The amount of exciting discoveries I found on the internet about Europe eventually enticed me to stretch my trip out by a further 3 months.
Spending 4 months in Europe in 2006 was by far the most enjoyable experience of my life. I met some amazing fellow travellers, had some indescribable experiences, saw some unbelievable sights, and a couple of years before the thought of travelling on a scale such as this never crossed my mind. I feel like I have years of travelling to catch up on, as if I should've started travelling after I left high school instead of 3 years after leaving university. Now I feel like I may never stop.
To be honest, I now use the MTP website as my standard for places to visit, and in the past and in my future plans I've used the website to plan part of my trip. For example I would never have gone to the Aland Islands between Sweden and Finland without finding out about it on the MTP website.
In 2010 I embarked on an 8-month trek around the world to various countries in South America & Central America & Europe, with brief detours to the USA & Nepal & Hong Kong, and since then I've been sporadically visiting parts of the UK.
As of November 2010, I am looking for work in the UK to help raise travel money so I can visit every possible European location on MTP, and some parts of northern Africa and the Middle East, and revisit some of my favourite European destinations. Although with the current UK job climate (so far 7 weeks of job searching and only 2 interviews) I may be forced to travel on my credit card for a few months then head back to Australia where I can pick up a job in a week or two and pay off my travel debts.
