In a career primarily oriented to aviation (airlines, airport planning), have been paid to work thus far in 58 countries - distributed over the six populated continents - and have spent at least a year on each of those six, with extended residence in New York (birth through graduate school), Melbourne, Bogota, Nairobi, Bangkok, and Moscow;

Have driven a Chevy II convertible (to Phoenix, AZ) , and then a Land Rover (purchased in Phoenix) around the world, Bronx, NY-Bronx, NY (yes, with freighters on the oceans!) including the now-impossible Bombay-Edinburgh;

Have flown around the world on a weekend (while employed at TWA!) - 49 flight hours, 70 hours door-to-door, including more than eight hours each in Guam and Tokyo, and rides on a San Francisco cable car, the Honolulu Bus, and the Star Ferry across Hong Kong Harbor;

Have reached 311 countries/territories, including former designations like the Panama Canal Zone, East Germany, and Papua (274 of the TCC active list);

And have reached each and every one of 169 countries/territories on all seven continents from each and every one of those countries/territories - without using an airplane (this latter is my latest challenge list!). As of Fall, 2008, have thusly surface-connected 103 of the 192 UN countries.

Systematic travel to date has encompassed hundreds of lists, most of which have been completed. Was the first person known to have visited all 391 units of the U.S. National Park system. Have ridden over 100 railroads, have driven personally over 1 million road miles, and have sailed across all the major oceans.
